This is a nicely done album review but unfortunately your ranking of the tracks is in error .

Track 3, cut to the chase, is objectively the best.

"The motor of the western world

Racing off to every extreme

Pure as a lump of desire

Evil as a murderer's dream"

Lifeson's Picked guitar part and peart's driving rhythm sustain a level of intensity that matches unyielding, implacable hunger for progress and overcoming that peart's lyrics describe.

Counterparts has always been very special to me, since I was going through a dark time when it was released. It spoke to me and gave me a different perspective which was needed! Other Rush fans I encountered through the years seemed to have a "meh" attitude. Thank you so much for validating what I already knew in such a wonderfully descriptive way !

Thanks for your kind words and spending some time with MRC! Counterparts is a fantastic record and is deserving of its praise. I appreciate you sharing your story, and it reminds me of a couple of albums that helped me get through some difficult times as well. Those always occupy a special place in your heart.

As I’ve gotten older Counterparts has actually become my favorite Rush album. I love the lyrics and the musicality on this one

Very strong album from a lyrics perspective and, of course, their playing is first rate. I've grown a bigger appreciation of it over the years.

Great article! Really enjoyed the insight and it makes me want to go back right now and listen to Counterparts in its entirety. I, unlike the author(s), bought the album the day it came out and saw RUSH perform twice on its tour for it. I did always feel a bit like it was a 'middle of the pack' RUSH album (Roll The Bones, the previous album was unique and so strong, I think it outshines it a bit), but this article makes me question that sentiment. :) Going to go back throught it and see how I feel 30 years later.
