Who are you?
Hi there. My name is Michael Citro and I’ve been writing all kinds of stories since I was in junior high school. My biggest passions are music and sports and most of my writing is on these topics.
From 2004-2014 I hosted an online progressive rock radio show called Epic Prog, which started at The Dividing Line and moved to progrock.com a few years later. In addition to prog rock, I love a variety of musical styles, particularly 1980s pop, heavy metal and hard rock, 1990s alternative rock, new wave, funk, Southern boogie, and a bit of folk rock. Yes, even some disco. I started a website called michaellikestowrite.com in 2019 as a way of collecting my writing outside of the specific teams that I blog about. But that has morphed into MichaelsRecordCollection.com and websites are growing stale anyway. It’s better to bring the content to you than to have you go and find it.
Professionally, I’m in communications, where I write and get paid for it. I’m a former sports writer with the Amarillo Globe-News and I worked in professional hockey as the director of communications for the Amarillo Rattlers and Albany River Rats, and I spent five years in the communications department with the NHL’s Florida Panthers. I love sports, and even though I have moved outside of sports in my work life, I still like to talk and write about them.
Currently you can find my sports writing in two places. I’m the founder and managing editor of The Mane Land, a website covering Orlando City SC of Major League Soccer and the NWSL’s Orlando Pride. I have also been writing about Ohio State football and basketball for various websites since 2012 and I’m currently with Land-Grant Holy Land. I’m co-host of podcasts on both sites (The Mane Land PawedCast and the Silver Bullets Podcast).
What’s this newsletter about?
When I was a kid, I couldn’t wait to have my friends over to play a new record for them. My writings in this newsletter will be kind of like that. I will focus on an album or a concert or an artist and write about that topic, discussing the music with musicians, authors, podcasters, etc. This newsletter will include reviews, interviews, song or album rankings (and my reasoning behind it), or stories about how certain songs/albums/artists touched my life or the lives of others in some way.
Simply put: if you subscribe, you won’t have to worry about ever missing anything. Every new edition of the newsletter goes directly to your inbox and you’ll be among the first to see new stories. Subscribers never miss a post or an update. Get full access to the newsletter. The stories are free, but additional stories for paid subscriptions may be coming at some point in the future. Never fear, there will always be free content, but there may be even more content for those who show their support and allow me the time and opportunity to spend additional time on this. But that’s for another day.
How can I contact you?
